Running Costs of a Hybrid car

Discover how driving an all-electric or e-HYBRID car could lower your running costs & reduce the tax bill of your business compared to a petrol engined car.

Save as you drive

All-electric and e-HYBRID cars can benefit from money-saving initiatives – some areas offer free parking and exceptions from some ULEZ charges.

Lower running costs

Driving electric may help cut down on your running costs, as charging a battery is cheaper than filling up with petrol for the equivalent number of miles. This may also save businesses money as they add more electric or e-HYBRID cars to their fleet +.

All-electric cars are also less expensive to service as they have just three core components – a battery, a motor, and a charger. Without components found in traditional petrol cars, such as cambelts and oil filters, it’s often easier to diagnose and fix problems.

Everyday savings

There are several perks electric and e-HYBRID vehicles enjoy, such as free parking for all-electric cars in some parts of the UK.

All-electric vehicles are completely exempt from London’s Congestion Charge, while e-HYBRIDs are also charged at a discounted rate in many Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZ) such as in London, Glasgow and Birmingham. Plus more cities, including Newcastle and Manchester, are introducing them.

Charging at work

The Government is incentivising businesses to install chargers on their premises by offering grants to help cover the costs.

Workplace charging

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) pays for up to 75% of the price of installation for up to 40 chargepoint sockets across all sites, up to a limit of £350 per charger, it can be spread to cover multiple locations, for example to cover four units being installed across ten locations.

Tax made easier

The amount of Company Car Tax, known as Benefit in Kind (BiK), employees need to pay can be reduced if they are provided with an electric or e-HYBRID vehicle.

For example the all-electric CUPRA Born’s BiK will be calculated at 1% for the financial year 21/22, and at 2% for 22/23, 23/24 and 24/25. Considering less efficient cars can be charged at up to 37%, this could save thousands per year. While the BiK is calculated at a higher rate for e-HYBRIDs, they still come in cheaper than traditional petrol cars.

Use the CUPRA tax calculator for an estimate of tax savings you could make.
